The latest versions of my syllabi for Spring 2020, reflecting changes made in the shift to remote instruction, are on the right.
Please note that deadlines have been extended and late policies have been relaxed. Please consult the latest version of your syllabus and be sure to read all e-mails sent to the class.
This is an extremely difficult time for all of us. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you are struggling.
Prospective students at City College can take a look at what students from Fall 2019 got out of my Intro classes in the document to the right. [Evaluations from Spring 2020 will be posted very soon.]
The majority of students in those classes earned high-B or A grades on their final papers. Many of the students who started out writing C or D papers were writing A papers by the end of term.
My Intro class is designed to help you improve your writing, your ability to engage in productive, sustained, cooperative discussion of challenging topics, and your reading and critical thinking skills.
We cover topics like the badness of death, the wrong of lying,
immortality, personal identity, artificial intelligence, consciousness, and the nature of interpersonal acts like flirting and promising.
Below the City College document is a selection of student evaluation comments from classes I taught at UCLA in recent years.
Please feel free to get in touch with any questions about future classes.
